February 2015

Perking up

We have scrubbed, dusted, polished, cleaned, painted, and generally refreshed the place ready to reopen on Saturday the 14th of February after our winter break. We'll be open every day during half term week; weekends from the 14th of March; and in full swing from the start of the Easter Holidays on Monday the 30th of March. We are looking forward to seeing our regular customers as well as meeting new people. We'll be trying out a couple of new ideas (watch out for quiz boxes on the inside tables) but keeping our well loved favourites on the menu.

We are blanketed in snow at the moment but the sun is shining and there's a good supply of logs outside. It's very tempting to stay by the log burner with a coffee and a piece of cake but we need to make sure we're ready for Saturday the 14th.

We are looking forward to the new season. The village will feature in the 2015 'Tour de Yorkshire' cycle event. We were sad that last year the Tour de France's Grand Depart in Yorkshire didn't make it this far over but 'Le Côte de Grosmont' features as the steepest ascent on day one's circuit on the 1st of May. We're hoping most of the snow will have gone by then! The event starts at Bridlington, tours the hills on the North York Moors before returning back down the coast to Scarborough. We're working with other businesses locally to see what extras we can provide for spectators as they watch competitors grinding up the hill out of the village.

Here we record highlights from our day to day activity
